Xiaomi Mi Vacuum 1 or 2? Which to choose?

Xiaomi has done a great job with its first robot vacuum cleaner. The Mi Vacuum is an excellent robot, at a great price.

With the second version, it has managed to improve itself. The Mi Vacuum 2 Roborock is a robot that maintains many of the characteristics that have made the first one of the most appreciated robots by its users, such as the excellent mapping of rooms or the great life of its battery. You can buy it in 3 different colors: white (Roborock S50), white with a rose gold band (Roborock S51) and black (Roborock S55).

In addition, the Vacuum 2 incorporates some improvements, among which these stand out:

  • It is even more powerful. If the Vacuum 1 was already at the top of the market, with its 1.800 pascals of suction power, the Vacuum 2 sets the bar even higher, with an impressive 2.000 pascals, becoming the most powerful robot vacuum cleaner on the market.
  • It is capable of climbing 2 centimeters high carpets (previously, it climbed up to 1 centimeter).
  • It's a little quieter.
  • It incorporates a tank with mop and scrubbing function.
  • Recommendation: check the price in the different stores, as they vary continuously (more information about the stores and how to go about the purchasing process at the end of the review). In some cases, given the success that the Xiaomi Vacuum is having, the product may be temporarily out of stock. In some cases, the page may not translate and the price may appear in dollars. To calculate the price in euros, you can roughly divide by 1,2. When you enter View my Cart, at the top right, you can choose the currency, and enter euros (you may have to refresh the screen to see it, by pressing F5). Prices in euros may vary slightly, depending on the fluctuations in the exchange rate between the dollar and the euro.

You can also take a look at the robot vacuum cleaner that everyone was waiting for. The successor to the Xiaomi Vacuum 2 is here. The new Roborock S6, with everything that has made its predecessor successful, but now, it is smarter, and has become one of the quietest on the market. Find out!

If you don't need the mopping option, but want a robot with the latest technology, and now more powerful, efficient and intelligent, discover the Xiaomi Vacuum MiJia 1S, the new version of the Xiaomi Vacuum 1. Similar to the new Roborock S6, but without scrubbing, and at a super competitive price.

Y sIf you want a robot with a more advanced scrubbing system, the Roborock S5 Max is the solution. A robot that was presented in November 2019 as the successor to the best-selling Vacuum 2, with which it shares many features, but with improvements in the navigation system, in the app's functionalities (includes room cleaning, for example) and above all, with a much more efficient scrubbing system. Xiaomi Mi Vacuum: operation

The robot can be controlled from a mobile application, or through its buttons. The Xiaomi Mi Vacuum has a double button on the top. Depending on the way we press it, we will activate different functions:

A press on the power button starts cleaning.

A press on the home button activates pause mode.

If the home button is pressed again, while paused, it returns to the charging base.

By pressing both buttons at the same time for about three seconds, the Wifi is restarted.

The robot has a side brush - like the Roomba - and a central brush, which combines rubber and bristles, for better cleaning. Besides, The automatic adjustment of its height with respect to the ground helps ensure that no trace of dust escapes its action.

Xiaomi Mi VacuumXiaomi Mi Vacuum 2 Roborock below

Removing the tank is very simple. The top cover of the robot is opened, and the tank is removed comfortably, as it is located at the top. The tank has a high-efficiency filter, which blocks microparticles of dust and mites, leaving a cleaner environment.

The Mi Home app, full of advantages

Although you can do all this with the buttons, The usual thing is to control the robot through the Mi Home smartphone application. This app was developed by Xiaomi to control all smart devices for the home, and the Mi Vacuum was not going to be an exception.

The app can be found translated into Spanish; Until recently, translations were done by users, and there were parts that were still in Chinese. However, with the arrival of Xiaomi in Spain, the official translation is now available.

My Home App

Linking the robot to the application is very simple. You simply have to turn on the robot and, when you open the Mi Home app, it will appear that there is a new device (because it will have already detected it). In the event that it does not detect it automatically, we can click “add device” in the application, and it will find it (it connects via Wifi). We enter the network password, and that's it.

Once we control the robot from our mobile phone, we could, for example, start the vacuum cleaner from another place, giving it the start order from the app.

Through the app, we can access advanced functions, such as activating or deactivating turbo mode on carpets, programming the robot, similar to creating alarms on a mobile phone, or defining an area to clean on the map (or several, if desired), interactively.

Power

The Xiaomi Mi Vacuum has a powerful motor developed by Nidec, capable of reaching an incredible suction power of 1.800 Pascals, which rises to 2.000 in the case of the new version, the Vacuum 2 Roborock.

Its power is the highest of any robot vacuum cleaner currently available, including high-end ones. For this reason, some call the Xiaomi “Roomba Killer”, since many potential Roomba buyers can decide on this Xiaomi robot, with high features and a more affordable price.

Navigation system

The Xiaomi Mi Vacuum has a very advanced navigation system, based on 12 sensors (collision, unevenness, ultrasound, gyroscope, accelerometer...).

It also includes a laser sensor, which works similarly to the systems found in autonomous vehicles.. This sensor scans the environment up to 1.800 times per second, drawing a 360º image of the room.

Thanks to this technology and its three processors, the robot makes a detailed mapping of the home, so that it knows where it has to do its work, without hardly hitting obstacles, and optimizes the route.

The first time you visit a room, you do an initial reconnaissance of the space, to measure its dimensions and choose the best cleaning pattern.. If the room is large, he divides it into small square portions, which he cleans consecutively.

In the Mi Home app you can see the mapping carried out by the robot and the route it takes when cleaning the home, as well as select various functions (such as, for example, high performance mode or remote control mode).

Xiaomi Mi Vacuum cleaning map

Its high-capacity battery (5.200 mAh) also provides great autonomy, about two and a half hours. (Of course, as soon as it notices it's running low, it returns to the charging base on its own).

When it comes to overcoming obstacles, the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum easily climbs slopes of 1 centimeter (up to 2 centimeters in the case of the Vacuum 2 Roborock).

  • A cleaning brush.
  • In the case of the Vacuum 2, it includes a plastic base that can be fitted into the charging base, and is used for the robot to stand on it when it is charging.

The charging base is a modern device, with a beautiful design, which allows the cable to be housed inside, and has large connections, to make it easier for the robot to be placed on them.

Advantages of the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum

Xiaomi Vacuum 2 Nidec motor

Maximum power

Its 1.800 pascals of suction power (2.000 in the Vacuum 2) put it at the top of the most powerful robot vacuum cleaners on the market., achieving excellent cleaning on all types of surfaces.

Xiaomi Mi Vacuum large capacity battery

Large capacity battery

Its 5.200 mAh battery gives it excellent autonomy of 2,5 hours. If we add to this its sophisticated navigation system, The robot can clean homes of up to 250 m2 with a single charge.

Xiaomi Vacuum laser navigation

Home mapping

In addition to 12 other sensors, it has a laser device, which helps it optimize routes and avoid obstacles; This allows you perform intelligent navigation, which is also being perfected.

Xiaomi Mi Vacuum map

Easy to control

Its integration into the Mi Home application allows a simple operation from the smartphone, from which we can program it, obtain various information about the work of our robot, or select some functions (such as high performance mode or remote control mode).

Drawbacks

There are few drawbacks to this robot. We can mention that it is not able to overcome unevenness greater than 1 centimeter (that is, it has problems with somewhat thick carpets), an issue that has been corrected in the new version of the device, which overcomes unevenness of 2 centimeters.

On the other hand, its high power means that it is not particularly quiet, and its noise level can reach around 70 decibels, higher than other devices on the market (for example, the best sellers Conga 1390 y Conga 3090 They emit a noise lower than 64 decibels; If you want to know more about how noise is measured, visit our article about silent vacuum cleaners).

Xiaomi Mi Vacuum: opinions

Navigation is not chaotic, as in many robot vacuum cleaners. Divide the house into small areas, and clean, for example, first the kitchen, then the living room, then the children's room, then the bedroom, and finally the bathroom. When finished, it returns to the charging base by itself, and the only thing you have to do is empty the tank and maintenance.

Perfect, I'm excited. The Xiaomi robot sucks thoroughly, faster and better than me. I didn't expect that result, but the dust container proves it (and you can clearly see it).

This robot is great. Setup is easy, it can be handled either manually or through an app. The suction power is great. Just for the dust it removes from under furniture and beds, it would be worth it. The Navigation is smooth, and has not damaged my furniture (I have a bright paint kitchen and it scared me a little).

The best value for money. The container is always full, there is a clear difference from before and after that the robot finishes its work. The robot is very careful with furniture. For about 60 square meters, it takes about 45 to 60 minutes.

A really cool device. Cleaning performance is very good, especially on carpets. We have two dogs, and the robot removes practically all the hair. With one battery charge, it cleans the 90 square meters of our apartment and still has left over.

Xiaomi Mi Vacuum 2 Roborock: the best robot vacuum cleaner on the market

If you found the Mi Vacuum interesting, its new version, the Vacuum 2 Roborock is even superior; It is, without a doubt, one of the best robot vacuum cleaners on the market.. It shares some of the features of the first, but presents some significant improvements:

Its suction power is even greater, nothing more and nothing less than 2.000 Pascals, currently the most powerful robot vacuum cleaner on the market. (beating, for example, the Roomba 980, a robot whose price is around 1.000 euros).

The new version is capable of overcoming differences in level of 2 centimeters, instead of 1, which works better with thick carpets. When cleaning carpets, it automatically applies a high pressure mode, which helps you leave them even cleaner.

And, above all, something that we really like, and that has already been incorporating super sales for a long time, such as Conga Excellence: It has a water tank and a mop, so that, in addition to vacuuming, it can mop.

The water tank is a flat tank, with a capacity of about 100 milliliters of water, which incorporates the mop. To fill it, you simply have to lift a cap that comes with it and open the tap. When we see that it is almost full, we close the rubber stopper and move it; There should be an air bubble inside, not fill it to the top.

It is important to clear the area to be scrubbed, to make the task easier. Although the robot has a very advanced navigation system and sensors that prevent it from getting trapped, if it were to remain "locked" somewhere for a while, it could wet the ground more than it should.

The water tank gradually releases the liquid, slightly wetting the ground through which it circulates. As the mop passes, it remains slightly damp, leaving a clean and shiny floor. The scrubbing result is acceptable. It does not remove the most embedded stains nor is it suitable for very dirty floors, but it can be used for everyday use.

Xiaomi Mi Vacuum: where to buy

At least, for now, the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum can only be purchased online. Shipping can come from the European Union or from outside, and there may be differences there.

What is the purchasing process like on Aliexpress?

On Aliexpress, shipping can also be from a Spanish or European warehouse, or from China, and the mechanics are similar to that of Gearbest. If you are browsing from your PC, you can choose the country and currency at the top right of the screen, by clicking on the drop-down menu with the flag.

Aliexpress choose country and currency

You will have to choose, on the one hand, the characteristics of the product, by clicking on 3 places: one of the photos (where it says color), the country from which it is shipped, and the type of plug (EU – European Union). When you click on them, they will be marked in red, as shown below. A little further down, above the buttons, you can choose the place to send to and the delivery method:

Aliexpress product selection

When you click to choose the country, you are taken to this screen, where you also choose the shipping method (normally, local delivery):

Xiaomi, an innovative company in every sense

The Chinese company has, in a short time, earned the nickname of the “Chinese Apple”. And this company, founded in 2010, launched its first smartphone on the market in 2011, and already in 2013, it managed to surpass the world leaders in market share, at that time the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S4. .

  • Its strategy at that time was already the same that has characterized Xiaomi in all its products: a very high quality-price ratio. Xiaomi offers mid-range features at low prices, and high-end devices at mid-range prices.

Furthermore, like Apple, Xiaomi prefers not to have a very wide range of products (as Samsung or Huawei do, for example), but rather to focus on a few models., and try to make them the kings of their category.

In recent years, Xiaomi has decided to expand its markets, internationalizing the company (opening physical stores and websites in other countries, outside of China).

But, in addition, its range of products has also grown; It no longer only makes mobile phones, but has extended its philosophy of excellent value for money to other products., such as computers, tablets, smart watches, televisions, activity bracelets, electric bicycles and skateboards, and, of course, robot vacuum cleaners.

  1. Someone has had problems updating the firmware. From the My Home application an update appears and I am not able to update, even having it on the base and within the range of the router and wifi. Can anyone advise me? Thank you very much

    • Hello Cristina, thank you for visiting us.

One of the main causes of problems with the firmware update is precisely what you mention, that the robot is not in the base, or that the Wi-Fi does not reach where it is well. From what you say, that problem can be ruled out. Have you tried restarting it by pressing the two buttons?

  2. Hello, I have recently had the Roborock S50 V2 and I am super happy. I have heard and read that there are problems with black carpets because the device mistakes it for a step height and does not advance to avoid falling off a cliff. What about it? Corrected? A hoax? Thank you!

    Reply
    • Hi Heinz, thanks for stopping by.

Well, this is an issue that can occur, not only in the Xiaomi, but also happens in other brands, such as Roomba or iLife. The point is that the sensors detect black as depth, and the robot does not move forward, as you point out.

It is not something that happens in all types of carpets, it seems that it can vary depending on the length of the pile or the pattern of the carpet. For example, carpets of a different color with large black or dark lines (it doesn't even have to be black, a lot of contrast is enough) running through them, you can interpret it as a void.

In the case of the Xiaomi (and other connectable robots), software updates add new functionalities and correct some problems, so it is possible that, at least in part, they have been correcting it, so that it is less common happen, but we could not guarantee that there are no cases in which it can still happen.

  3. Hello! I have a house of about 350 square meters and I wanted to know if this robot incorporates self-charging technology with resumption (That is: when it runs out of battery it returns to the charging base and resumes cleaning from where it left off).

That's right, the Vacuum 2 Roborock is one of the best robots on the market, which not only has great autonomy, but also has auto charging and resumption, so it is capable of continuing work where it left off.

Well, the truth is that we do not know if it is possible to purchase it in a physical store, we have not found it in any, and even some large chains, although they advertise it on their website, do so as intermediaries for another seller. We regret that we cannot help you further with this issue.

I have called Xiaomi to find out where to buy it. I have been told that this product is not officially for sale in Spain so it can only be purchased online. (They import it from China) and even though the instruction manual is in Spanish, there may be no warranty since there is no warranty in China.

      • Hello, Jordi, thank you very much for your contribution.

As for the guarantee, simply indicate that in this case it depends on the distributor, on the websites through which it is sold they usually indicate it, normally in the description of the device itself, or in some general section.

        A greeting.

I have a question, all the spare parts that I have seen online for the Xiaomi Vacuum 2 are in white, for the S50 model, and I liked it in black, do you know where I can get spare parts for the S55 model in black? Thank you very much for your great work.

  6. Unfortunately I bought a Vacuum 2; The container tab is very flimsy and cracks brittlely. Could you tell me where I can buy spare parts? Since the only things that are found are things like brushes, wheels, etc. and if you contact Xiaomi or Roborock THEY REFUSE to provide you with replacement parts.

    Reply
    • Hello, Silvia, thank you for visiting us.

We assume you are referring to the dust container. Certainly, it is very difficult to find it, because the usual thing is that they sell you spare parts for what wears out (brushes, filters...) or even the wheels; For some strange reason, the deposits are more difficult to find.

After several consultations and an exhaustive search, we have found an option, let's see if it works for you: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/99M6NDW

    • Hello, Daniel, thank you for coming to our website.

That's right, this robot has automatic carpet detection (it can be configured in the app), so it maximizes power when it detects that it is on one of them.

As for the battery, of course, the more you use maximum power, the less it lasts, but don't worry, because this model has a battery with a large capacity, one of the largest on the market.

  7. Hello,
I come from a bad experience with another robot, I thought it would be the best of the best and it didn't do any complete cleaning for me, it stayed in the same place and in the end it gave an error and stopped. The app sucks, it would get stuck connecting or it would disconnect by itself and you had to reconfigure the Wi-Fi again, so I returned it.
Now I am considering buying a Xiaomi, at first I was debating between the Vacuum 1 and 2, but I see that the Xiaowa E35 could also be an interesting option. Are there any notable differences between the Vacuum 1 and the Xiaowa E35?
On the other hand, the fact of buying it on websites like Aliexpress or Gearbest makes me a little distrustful because of the possible future problems that could arise and the issue of returns. How do they respond? Because we all know that with Amazon there is no problem, they will replace it or refund it without having to give too many explanations, but it is true that there is quite a difference in price between buying it on Amazon and the other two.
    Thanks for your answer, greetings.

    Reply
    • Hello again, Patricia, thank you for your visit.

In relation to the second question, these websites usually work in a similar way to Amazon in terms of managing returns, or when the product that arrives does not correspond exactly to the one ordered. Where they differ the most is the deadlines, which tend to take longer, especially when the product comes from China. Otherwise, there are usually no problems.

Regarding the first question, we imagine that you have also seen our new article about the Xiaowa E35.

It depends a little on whether you want to have the scrubbing function or not, and the price you want to pay. The price of the Vacuum 1 and the Xiaowa E35 is similar, but the former has laser navigation and the Xiaowa has a gyroscope, which is a little less precise and is not predictive, like the laser. But, in exchange, you have the option to scrub (it should also be noted that the Xiaomi's scrubbing is not as good as that of the Conga, is not as accomplished) and is more powerful (although the power of the Vacuum 1 is already very good).

Then there's the Vacuum 2, which brings all those things together, maximum power, mopping ability and laser navigation. Of course, you have to pay 80-90 euros more.

      All the best

Do you recommend this or V1? The difference to obtain it in Latin America is approximately 130USD, and I don't know if it will be worth it, as I understand it, the difference is only in the MOPA and the 200 additional power

Do you think it's worth the extra?

    • Hello, Ricardo, thank you for visiting our website.

The fundamental differences are those two that you mention, and that the Vacuum 2 is capable of lifting 2 centimeter carpets, instead of 1 centimeter (something important if you have somewhat thick carpets). The noise level and the filtering system also change a little, which is a little more effective in the case of the Vacuum 1, although the filter of the 2 is washable.

The difference in price is noticeable, it depends on what each person is looking for. If you do not need or are not interested in mopping/scrubbing and the carpets in your house are not thick, there is no doubt that the Vacuum 1 is an excellent robot, which will give you a great result (after all, 1.800 Pascals are a lot of power). It's a bit of a question of each person's needs.

  9. Hello, the analysis indicates that the accessories or accessory kit for the Vacuum or the Vacuum 2 are compatible with both. However, this is not correct, at least in regards to the Hepa filters, since in my case, where I have a Vacuum 2, I cannot find these filters since the filters that I have ordered both on Gearbest and on Amazon (supposedly for a longer guarantee), they do not fit well in the tank and in fact the device does not react or work with them (I suppose they refer me to the Vacuum 1 ones), and the sellers ignore this issue.
I need help. Could you indicate one or better several correct links to obtain hepa filters for the Vacuum 2?

  10. Hello, Ana, thank you for visiting us. Well, in this case we wouldn't know what to tell you, we have never encountered that problem, but we published your query, in case someone else can help you.

What exactly happens? Is it like the tank is hooked? What has sometimes happened to us is that the robot has vacuumed up some more or less long and hard element (for example, a hairpin), and that this element can get caught in some way, stopping, and preventing you from move the deposit. We don't know if something like this could happen.

    A greeting.

    • Hello, Reyes, thank you for visiting our page, and for your observation.

Right now, we do not have any valid promotional codes (in fact, there is one in force, but using it, the price is worse than those obtained with the flash offers, which at this time are very competitive; therefore, we do not have any currently coupon).

  12. Hello, Antica. Maybe it's a battery problem, and you need to replace it. If you don't have much time, you can contact the seller to replace it for you. In any case, check that the charging base is properly plugged in and resting on the wall, and that the terminals of the robot match those of the base when charging. Additionally, you can clean the terminals with a soft, clean, dry cloth to ensure that there are no particles that are hindering charging. You can also try resetting the robot, in case it has gotten "hung" for some reason.

  13. Hello, I need help: it seems that it was completely discharged and it tells me error 12 with low battery!
I put it on the base and there is nothing that turns on to verify that it is charging.
He pressed the two buttons, the Wi-Fi light starts flashing and then the blue light stops turning on.
I'm worried, I can't know what's loading? Shouldn't it turn on something that shows it's in charge?

  14. Hi David. Without a doubt, the second generation offers superior features (at a higher price, too, it's all a matter of evaluating it).
As far as the mop is concerned, it is not mandatory that you use it.
The mop is attached with Velcro to a water tank, which is released, soaking the mop so it can do its job. It is possible that, depending on the type of floor, its roughness, the separations between tiles, or some other factor, the result is not as satisfactory as would be desired, and that is why some users complain, as you mention. If the robot spends a lot of time in some place, as it continues to release water, it may possibly cause what you mentioned, causing more flooding than it should.
Probably in other robots, such as Conga Excellence (https://www.miaspiradora.com/robot-aspirador/conga-excellence-robot-aspirador-espanol-y-completo-menos-200-euros/), which incorporate drip control, the system is more accomplished, and the result is better. If this is important to you, perhaps you should go for the Conga 990, which works very well.
Another possible use of the mop, which is not usually mentioned, is to polish parquet floors. Instead of filling the water tank, you spray the mop with some wood cleaning spray, and thus, while vacuuming, it leaves them brighter.

  15. Hello, my doubt is between choosing the 1st generation model and the second. Obviously the second generation is more modern, it climbs more slopes, more suction power, the mop and the water...
But I have read on some website that people talk regularly about the mop. That in the end what she does is more "dirty" than cleaning.
Do you know something about it?
Can the mop be "disconnected" or does it always run?

    Thank you

  16. Hello, AF. Through Wifi, the Mi home application is linked to the Xiaomi Vacuum, and the software can be updated.
In the application the device would be added -add devices- and the robot would be added. You could control the robot through the buttons it includes, but it is more comfortable and functional to do it from the application.
If you do not have Wi-Fi at home, you should be able to do it through two mobile phones, one that works as a router (that shares the Internet connection), and another, on which you have the Mi Home application installed, which will be the one you use to handle it.

  17. Hello,
How's the Wifi going? I don't really understand how it connects to the phone. Is it necessary to have internet at home with a Wi-Fi network?
    Thank you

  18. I have it at home and it's amazing. When I connected it it spoke in Chinese. I installed the app that is in Spanish, I added the device, so far so good. But when I enter the device menus everything is in Chinese, with patience, translating everything into English I have managed to get the robor to speak in English but... How do I change the language of all the device menus when I enter the app? I would like to put it in English but I don't see the option. I have gone through all the menus.

    Thank you,

  19. Hello, I bought the roborock yesterday on gearbest and I got the Chinese version, which one should I have bought? There are several:
    – EU and ES-HK second generation plug: €507,59
    – Second-generation international version EU plug HK: €431,45
    – Second generation: €422,99 (this is the one I bought)
I have sent them an email to cancel the shipment and thus get the one I should have bought from the beginning.
What is the difference? Does the operation change? the robot's language?
    Thanks and best regards

    • Hi Vanessa, this is probably the biggest complication in these cases, where to buy, and what the implications are, i.e. whether it may incur additional customs charges. At Gearbest, they usually answer questions about customs generically, indicating that "there could be additional charges."
If you want an explanation about warehouses, you can find it at http://gearbestespana.com/almacen-gearbest-espana/. In general, shipping from a Spanish/European warehouse is more expensive, because it will already include the cost derived from customs, while products that come from China are usually cheaper, although there is a risk of additional charges. In the case of HK, it is a Hong Kong warehouse.
As for the language of the robot, it will be the same, the robot is managed through the app, of which there are translations into Spanish. The plug usually comes with an adapter to the Spanish system, although if it doesn't, it is easy and cheap to purchase at a hardware store or electronics store.

  20. Hello, David, there is no problem, since it scans the surface through its sensors, so it will map both rooms (it is a robot that does it relatively quickly, too). There are users who usually have it on one of the floors, and simply raise/lower the robot to the other floor, without carrying the base. In that case, at the end, as it will not find the base, it will stop, parking in the place where it started. Other users prefer to disconnect the base and take it and the robot to the other floor, so that, when finished, it returns to the base.
