Spangler gave one of the sweepers to her cousin Susan Troxel Hoover, who was impressed by the invention, and discussed it with her husband, William Hoover, who at the time had a leather products company. Hoover decided to buy the patent from Spangler in 1908. and create a company dedicated to the production of the invention.

Initially, vacuum cleaners were very expensive, so Hoover offered a free ten-day trial to anyone who wanted it, in addition to creating a wide retail distribution network and making advertisements in the press.

Thus, income began to increase rapidly, and in 1912 it had already made sales to countries such as Norway, Russia, France and Belgium.

In 1930, The company created the first handheld vacuum cleaner on the market, the Hoover Dustette, which would have great success, and many versions over the following decades. (many of them still work today).
