Hisense is a major multinational manufacturer with a strong presence in consumer electronics both through its main brand and developing products for other well-known brands.

The company is one of the leaders in the image and sound segment, ranking among the three best-selling television brands worldwide, and has become widely known for sponsoring several European Championships, soccer World Cups, tennis championships such as the Australian Open, NASCAR Racing, and teams such as PSG, Leeds , Inter Milan or Red Bull F1 Racing.

In addition to televisions and sound bars, Hisense has a wide range of products for cooking and washing (refrigerators, ovens, hobs, microwaves, washing machines, dishwashers...), as well as mobile phones, air conditioners and vacuum cleaners, with models like the versatile HVC6464A or the affordable HVC6134W.

History of Hisense

The company began operations under the name Qingdao No.2 Radio Factory in 1969., initially manufacturing a radio set and later starting the production of black and white televisions, in 1971. In 1979, the production of this type of set was promoted in China, and the firm merged with others to give rise to Qingdao General Television Factory, located in Shandong province, current headquarters of Hisense.

From there, it began a rapid evolution with the purchase of different production lines and technologies from Japanese companies. such as Matsushita, Hitachi, NEC, Sanyo or Toshiba, which allowed it to make the leap to color television.

In 1994 the Hisense group was born, which three years later would begin trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange., expanding its scope of action not only to consumer electronics, but also to other household appliances, with large investments in R&D and the creation of various industrial parks.

In 2002 it established a joint venture with Hitachi to develop air conditioning equipment.

In 2007, the first LCD television production line was launched. with own technology.

In 2008 it established a joint venture with Whirlpool to manufacture washing machines and other white goods.

In 2012 it developed several industrial parks, in China (Jiangmen, Pingdu and Shenzhen) and in other places, such as South Africa.

In 2014 a new research and development center was launched, with nearly 280.000 m2 of facilities and an investment of around 200 million euros.

In 2015 it acquired Sharp America, taking charge of the television business of this brand throughout the continent.

In 2017 it bought 95% of the shares of Toshiba Visual Solutions Corporation (TVS).

Hisense has brought notable innovations to the market, such as the first 8-bit 10K HDR true screen TV, with ultra-high-density partition backlight control technology and an AI-powered HDR algorithm.

Headquartered in Qingdao, in the coastal province of Shandong, it is today a huge multinational, with more than 80.000 employees worldwide, with 14 industrial parks in China and other countries, such as the Czech Republic, South Africa and Mexico, and 18 R&D centers around the planet, including some in the United States, Germany, Slovenia and Israel.

Its annual turnover exceeded $27.000 billion in 2021, with an increase of 33% over the previous year, with a notable contribution from laser televisions, which grew by 279% in their exports, due in part to the pandemic.

Hisense laser televisions have an ultra-short throw projector with which they obtain high image quality (4K and 8K) on large screens (up to 75”), including technologies such as X-Fusion, which provides sharp images and natural colors, with an anti-glare screen and more precise contrasts, thanks to HDR technology.
