History of Eureka

Founded in Detroit (Michigan), the city known for being the base of the North American automobile sector, the American company has been equipping homes in its country since 1909.

The company was created by Fred Wardell, of Canadian origin, after several years working for a vacuum cleaner company called Stecher Electric and Machine Company. Initially, it began selling devices from other brands, until In 1913 he began manufacturing his own devices, becoming president of the newly created Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturers Association.

Eureka Clean Promise

In 1915 he achieved one of his first large-scale successes, reaching the grand prize at the San Francisco International Exposition.

Within a few years, Eureka became one of the leading vacuum cleaner brands in the United States, just behind Hoover, and with an "army" of more than 3.000 sellers, selling two million units in 1927.

 Starting in the 30s, the company diversified its production to other product lines, such as heaters and air conditioners.

In 1974 it was acquired by the Swedish group Electrolux, one of the main multinationals in the sector, owner of other well-known brands, such as AEG, White Westinghouse or Zanussi.
