La Korean brand Winix It is one of the most prominent worldwide in air care and treatment.. Headquartered in the South Korean capital, Seoul, it has headquarters and logistics warehouses in Asia, America and Europe.

Founded in 1973 as Yooshin Enterprise, it was the first manufacturer in its country to incorporate heat pump technology, and over the years it grew and developed two complementary business lines: water purification and air purification, to which today other segments are added, such as dehumidification and heating.

Their very interesting line of air purifiers includes advanced PlasmaWave technology, with models like the Zero S, ZeroPro and the protagonist of this review, which are basically distinguished by the speed of purification, or the compact A332.

Start up

We proceed to unpack the device, freeing it from stickers, plastics and transport protections, and we look for a location for it, separated 30-45 centimeters from the walls, so that the air circulates properly. Likewise, it is recommended to place it at least that distance from windows and electromagnetic sources, such as televisions or radios.

As is usual in many devices of this type, Filters come inside for easy transport, but come wrapped in plastic, so the first thing we will have to do is take them out to remove the packaging.

Winix Zero up close

To do this, the front part is removed and the filters are removed, they are unwrapped and put back in order, first inserting the True HEPA filter (which will therefore remain behind), then the carbon filter and then the pre-filter, replacing the front panel.

Next, plug in the device, which will go into standby, and by pressing the power button, on the left side of the panel, we can start working. When starting to work, the device will perform an air quality calibration for about 4 minutes, and then start normal operation. By default, the device will work in Auto mode and with PlasmaWave activated.

How Winix Zero works

The Winix Zero is a device with a medium-high purification capacity, so it is designed for rooms up to 99 m2. With dimensions of 43 x 25,91 x 62,79 centimeters and a weight of 7 kilograms, it is not difficult to move it from one place to another, so we can use it as it suits us in different rooms of the house (for example , during the day in the living room, and at night in the bedroom).

Its CADR or clean air delivery rate is 390 m3/h or 6.500 liters per minute, so It is capable of cleaning the air of a 25 m room2 in less than 10 minutes, or more than 6 times in 1 hour.

Operating modes

The Winix Zero It is operated in a simple and intuitive way using the panel at the top, in which in addition to the on/off button, we find:

  • With the Mode button, we can select the operating mode, with 4 manual speeds (Low, Med, High and Turbo), a night mode (Sleep) and an Auto mode.
  • With the Mode button, we can select the operating mode, with 4 manual speeds (Low, Med, High and Turbo), a night mode (Sleep) and an Auto mode.

With each press, the selected mode changes. With the manual modes (from Low to Turbo) we define the fan speed.

Top view
  • In night mode it is set to low speed, to reduce the noise level to 27 decibels, also turning off the lights so as not to disturb sleep.
  • In Auto mode, the purifier uses its sensors to automatically adjust the speed based on the degree of environmental pollution, speeding up work if there is a lot of pollution and reducing its operation when the air is cleaner.

The Winix Zero reports air quality through a practical and visual color system:

  • If the air quality is very good, it will show the color blue.
  • Yes it is average-good, the indicator will be green.
  • Yes it is mediocre, the light will turn orange.
  • when there is one high pollution, the indicator will turn red.

Winix Zero too includes a PlasmaWave button, which allows us to deactivate or activate this function.

In addition, It has a timer that allows you to predetermine the time it will be working the purifier (1-4-8 hours or without timer). Taking into account its purification speed, in many cases, 1 hour of operation will be enough to have clean air, except in situations in which the environment is "loaded" for other reasons: there are many people in a room, there are a lot of smoke/smells…

Purification system

The purification system of purifiers is usually based on a fan, which It passes the air in the room through various filters and then releases it clean, renewing the environment; To this system, Winix Zero also adds PlasmaWave technology.

All types of particles

Su advanced filtering system It is made up of three layers:

  • a prefilter mesh, which traps dust, lint, human hair, pet hair, textile fibers, wood, etc.
  • An active carbon filter, which is responsible for smoke, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including toluene and formaldehyde, which can be caused by combustion or released naturally from elements present in homes (clothing, wood, plastics, paints, varnishes, cosmetics...) and that can cause irritation, headaches and other problems, especially for people with asthma.
  • A high-efficiency True HEPA filter, which allows it to achieve a filtering efficiency of 99,999%, effectively trapping microparticles of dust, mites, pollen and other contaminants.
Winix Zero filtering system
  • The filtration is joined by Winix PlasmaWave technology, which creates hydroxyl (OH) molecules that naturally neutralize bacteria and viruses. without generating ozone, reducing mold growth.

Hydroxyl radicals are commonly known as "the detergent of the air" for their cleaning power, breaking down the outer layer of germs and volatile organic compounds.

PlasmaWave technology

According to tests carried out by the prestigious Yonsei University (one of the most prominent institutions in Korea, with more than 130 years of history), Winix's patented PlasmaWave technology reduces the rate of viruses and bacteria in environments and surfaces by up to 99,9%.

Maintenance

The maintenance of this device is extremely simple. As in other devices in this segment, It is recommended to clean the pre-filter regularly, every 2-4 weeks, which will result in better machine performance. and in a longer duration of the other filters.

The carbon filter can also be cleaned (every 3 months), while the HEPA filter is not cleaned.

The prefilter is permanent, while the other two have a duration of 6-12 months, depending on the use given to it and the environmental conditions (in practice, as we have pointed out previously, in many cases we will use the purifier for a few hours a day, for which the duration will be longer).

Opinions about Winix Zero

I am allergic to dust and pollen, as well as pollution and chemicals, so I need a purifier. After analyzing it a lot and consulting with various people, I decided to purchase Winix Zero and I absolutely recommend it. It is less noisy than the Rowenta I had before, and very efficient. In addition, it is easy to handle and has good aesthetics. An excellent purchase.

I have tried four purifiers from different brands and I will definitely choose this one. I didn't know the brand before, but After a month of using it I can say that it is the best I have ever had, for the first time, I have been able to stop antihistamines. I have a dog and I am allergic, and thanks to this machine, I have forgotten my problems, and when it is on low mode you can practically not hear it, I had to put my ear to it to check that it was working. It is a 100% recommended device, especially for allergy sufferers.

Winix Zero air quality

It has automatic operation, at first stronger to clean the air, and then soft, almost imperceptible, when it is cleaner. The best thing is the feeling of breathing clean and fresh air, after a month of use, the improvement is spectacular, I no longer sneeze like before. Furthermore, its design is very elegant, it doesn't clash at all in my living room. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

The device is just as I expected. It is silent, very easy to use and It has a timer to choose how long it will work and then turn off automatically. The filters are very easy to change and have a modern look. A good device.

Day and night

The Winix Zero has exceeded my expectations from the first moment. At home we have two cats and my partner is allergic, so sometimes we had complications, especially at bedtime. Since we have had the purifier, without problems, it has been a magnificent solution. It is efficient, silent and does not bother at all, when the air reaches good quality, the fan slows down. I recommend it 100%.

Why buy a Winix Zero

If you are looking to enjoy higher quality air in your home, if there are allergic people in your home, you have pets and/or small children, and you want a environment free of dust, mites, pollen, mold, odors, gases and volatile organic compounds, thanks to its triple filtration system with True HEPA filter and PlasmaWave technology.
